What documents are required to file taxes?

You will need your W-2 or 1099-INT form from your employer. Additionally, you will need the following information from each person whom will be used in your taxes: Social Security Number, Date of Birth, and any W-2 or 1099-INT they have. If you have made any contributions to charity or if you have made purchases for work related expenses please bring a copy of the receipts or other proof.

What defines a dependent?
A person other than yourself or your spouse who is living with you for more than 50% of the year. It can be your children or an elderly relative you are currently supporting.
Do college students receive additional tax benefits?
Yes! With proof of enrollment and/or proof of student loan payments you can receive Tuition and Fee Deductions, the American Opportunity Tax Credit, and Lifetime Learning Credit.
Are there tax penalties for withdrawing money from a retirement account?
Yes, if you withdraw money from a retirement fund such as a 401k earlier than your designated age requirement you have to pay a 10% tax penalty in addition to the regular income tax on the amount withdrawn.
If I foreclose my home, does that impact my taxes?
A foreclosure before 2012 can be waived by the IRS but after 2013 it will affect your income tax refunds.
How long does it take to receive my refund?
The turn around for a correctly filed tax return is less than 21 days. With direct deposit, sometimes you will receive your refund within 10 days. If you file additional claims such as Earned Income Tax Credit,Additional Child Tax Credit, or Injured Spouse Allocation it may take upwards of 14 weeks to process. If there are any issues the IRS will contact us and we will work on the necessary steps.
